About Us

The Music in the Schools Foundation began in 1995 as the outreach project of the Palo Alto branch of the Music Teachers' Association of California. Currently, MIS has two contract teachers in classrooms at the Child Development Center pre-school, Green Oaks Academy and Willow Oaks, teaching 1000 pre-K through 5th grade. These classes are provided free of cost to the district. The students learn the basics of music and rhythm notation; they sing, dance and play music games The older students are learning beginning instrument skills with recorders During the 2010-2011 academic year we will reach about 30% of the students in the district. MIS is currently developing after school programs which will provide additional performance opportunities for students.
